The World Begins AnewShe was suffocating, her body surrounded by the burning flames. There were no possible locations to escape, and, even if there were, she no longer had the energy to pursue them. Although death was near, she was not fearful. All of her fear was drained by the arms that held her.
Suddenly there was noise, a loud, powerful, continuous noise that made the pain that seared throughout her body more intense. A soft murmuring sounded from next to her, and it brought hopelessness and despair, which, eventually, led to numbness.
She knew time was passing, btu had no control to view it as it passed by. She could hear the cries of familiar people, and the long sighs of strangers. The shouting of a voice so dear to her came and went, and the voices around her seemed to multiply rapidly, then slowly fade away. Despite how much she wanted to, she could not respond to these voices, could not urge her body to move. Time passed, and the whispering between a pair of voices brought the end of her will to

much too bright.
Even though my eyes were closed
I could see it-
The skin of my arms prickled,
sweat dripped from my brow.
It was two in the afternoon but…
the sun was setting
through the window facing east.
I should have seen the hutch,
shelves lined with bone china
decorated with delicate leaves and vines.
I was so thirsty
and reaching for cups that should have been there.
Instead I found a billboard of butterflies,
the colors raging
more than any rainbow
I'd ever seen.
Their wings fluttered and flashed
yet somehow they moved in slow motion.
I wanted to stand,
wanted to reach out and touch them but…
I couldn't move,
and yet I laughed
ignoring my dry mouth
and the tingling in my feet.
There was a tempest
on the rise
and in my blood.
A sugar rush disguised
as a riot of butterflies
and they were swarming me.
There was a small vial
of insulin in my pocket
